Church Membership
Church membership is about belonging to one another and becoming like Jesus. It is the way for individual Christians to make their formal commitment to the South Church family. In becoming a church member, individuals express their submission to the leadership of the church in accordance with the teaching of Scripture and the doctrinal statement of South Church.
Requirements for South Church Membership:
- Personal profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
- Committed to corporate worship and personal devotion to Christ and His Word.
- Baptism as a believer—at South Church we practice believer’s baptism by immersion. According to the command of Jesus himself and consistent with New Testament teaching, those who have consciously turned from their sin and put their personal faith in Jesus Christ should be baptized as an outward sign of their commitment to Him as Savior and Lord.
- Membership Course—attend The Membership Course that is normally offered three times during the year.
Please RSVP using the form below one week prior.
“Abide: A Study of 1, 2 , 3 John by Jen Wilkin
How can we hold onto assurance of our faith? How can we discern the truth from a lie? How can we know God loves us?
In three short letters, the apostle John reminds an early church facing division, deception, and doubt to hold fast to what they know and to live like they believe it. And he reminds us, as well. In this 10-session Bible study on the letters of 1, 2, and 3, John, Jen Wilkin helps you see how two thousand years later, his words call to Christians in similar challenges to recall a great salvation and to abide in the truth.

“Inductive Bible Study of Revelation, Precept Study
Ladies, come study the book of Revelation inductively! Inductive Bible study is a method of studying that allows you to discover for yourself what Scripture says and means. You will learn methods of observation, interpretation, and application. Our goal: to know God better and let the Truth of God’s Word transform us! In Revelation chapters 4-22, God reveals what will happen in end times. We will discover the events that will take place, as revealed by God in His Word. We will reason through scripture together and start to build our understanding.

Luke In The Land by Kristi McLelland
In our Bibles, we have four Gospels describing Jesus’s time on earth: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The land of Israel—the place Jesus walked and taught during His earthly ministry—is often referred to as the “fifth Gospel.” Follow Kristi McLelland through Israel as we study snapshots from the Gospel of Luke to see where the stories of the Bible took place. Over 7 sessions in this Bible study workbook, challenge the way you read the accounts of Jesus through teaching videos that take you to locations in Israel like Bethlehem, the Sea of Galilee, Gethsemane, Jerusalem, and the road to Emmaus. Along the way, you’ll see how Jesus, the Messiah, brought His kingdom to earth for everybody.
Thursdays, 6:30 pm – Board Room
Beginning March 27th
Workbook $25.00 with video access

The Practice of Preaching to Yourself Through Every Season
by Ruth Chou Simons
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” —Colossians 3:16a
Many of us want God’s Word to dwell richly in us, but life can get in the way.
We’d never intentionally write chapters of confusion, failure, loss, pain, conflict, or suffering into our stories. No one plans to wrestle with her identity in Christ, to struggle to love her husband, to feel lonely in ministry, or to feel helpless in motherhood. Yet we often find ourselves in these seasons, struggling to embrace the gospel hope we need to fill our discouraged souls.
Join Ruth Chou Simons in this 7-session study of the book of Colossians as she leads us through a practice of preaching gospel truth to ourselves by studying Paul’s example. In every changing season of life, we can rest in God’s character, rehearse our identity in Christ, respond in faith, and remember God’s provision for us. In today’s culture, there’s no shortage of self help, easy fixes, and worldly advice, but only the truth of God’s Word was meant to fill you up and satisfy you fully.
- Trade the lies found in culture, our minds, and our hearts for the truth of God’s Word.
- Experience a beautiful, accessible theology.
- Understand how to apply Scripture to your own life.
Sessions:
- June 11th, Session 1 —In this introductory session, we will look at how the practice of preaching truth to our own hearts is so important in our spiritual growth. We will also walk through the seasons of the heart that we’ll be studying and why the book of Colossians will be so integral to our time in TruthFilled.
- June 25th, Session 2 —Every day, some sort of message runs through our hearts and minds—we can choose to set our hearts on God’s Word and dwell on life-giving truths. Ruth also helps us understand how all right actions come out of right belief about God, who He is, and what He has done for His children.
- July 2nd, Session 3 —As we unpack the winter season of the heart, when we have to trust God’s unseen work because very little is blooming, Ruth reminds us that resting in God’s character is the only way to have peace and flourish in this life, no matter our circumstances.
- July 9th, Session 4 —In the spring season of the heart, we rehearse who God says we are, all based on who we know God to be. When we practice preaching the truth to ourselves, we nourish our souls and help ourselves thrive in our God-given identities as His children.
- July 30th, Session 5 —The summer season of the heart prompts us to respond in faith to God’s Word. As we look at Colossians 3:5-14, Ruth discusses the importance of putting off fleshly practices and putting on the character of Christ to walk in the new life God has given us and bear fruit.
- August 6th, Session 6 —The fall season reminds us of the need to trust God’s provision for us when times of rest come. As we close our study of the book of Colossians, we will see how integral the community of faith around each of us is in our perseveraance in the faith and continued encouragement.
- August 13th, Session 7 —In this final commissioning session, we will celebrate our progress and be challenged to make the practice of preaching truth to our own hearts a regular part of our everyday lives. If we apply our hearts and minds to God’s truth, He’ll transform us by it—more and more into the image of Christ. He’ll also help us to walk in accordance with His will.
