We are offering this lunch for people who are newcomers to South (anyone from a first-time visitor to someone who has been attending for up to six months or so).

Christianity Explored Who is Jesus? Why did he come? What does it mean to follow him? We will answer these questions by studying the life of Jesus in the Gospel of Mark on Sunday evenings. This study is perfect for a sincere seeker of spiritual truth or a skeptic who has real questions about the Christian faith. It is also a perfect opportunity for a seasoned saint to bring along a nonbelieving friend. Join Pastor Joel for this eight-week course in the Fireside Room. Light refreshments and childcare will be provided. Please RSVP by clicking here.

Faith Lab at Home
Jul 12 – Aug 15 all-day

Save the date! VBS Reinvented beginning July 12.

Things seem different this summer? Thinking about the way things used to be?

Let’s think out of the box and look forward to the opportunities God has for us THIS summer at home and in our neighborhoods!

Choose the best time for your family each week for 5 weeks to enjoy this reinvented VBS!

July 1, 2020

Hello and Happy Summer!

Are you ready to impact the lives of your children, their friends, grandkids, nieces, nephews, neighborhood kids and more? We are SO excited about Faith Lab @Home which begins on July 12. Josh Denhart, who was here in February for The Amazing Chemistry Show, has developed this opportunity for families to learn, grow and have fun together! His 5 sessions will deepen your understanding of the Gospel and our need for F-A-I-T-H in God.

The best part about participating in Faith Lab @Home is that it’s flexible – families can complete each session all at once or in parts, whenever it’s convenient! And, did we mention it’s FREE!!! Once you register at, we will add your email address to our group list. Everyone in the Faith Lab @Home group will be invited to an informational/kick-off Zoom on July 12. We are excited to tell you how the program will work and about the fun, exciting things we have planned as we go along.

Our big plan is to have us all move through the 5 sessions together, completing one session a week. If we stay on that schedule, the last week of the program will be the week of August 9.

After giving you some specifics at the Zoom launch, you will receive the link with all the content and then you are good to GO! By GO, we mean go through the first session whenever is best for your family.

Josh has made Faith Lab @Home VERY user friendly and he even chose supplies that most people would already have at home. Besides his science devotionals, projects, games and songs, there will be some fun challenges to complete as well.

Please don’t delay – get registered today! Be praying about who you can reach out to (neighbors, friends and family) for this awesome opportunity to hear the gospel and have tons of fun along the way!

Mrs. Cheney & Mrs. Risch

Register for Faith Lab @ Home here! Once you register, you will receive an email on July 12 with a link to all the online content.

Saturday Morning Women’s Study – The Village: weekend study for moms

Saturday Morning Women's Study - The Village: weekend study for moms
The Village: weekend study for moms
Beginning Saturday, February 15th, 2020
If you are a working mom, we want to build community with you! This new study is for moms of young children looking for a place to pursue God and support one another.
The Village will meet on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month, from 10am-11:30am, in Joy Shantz’s home in south Lansing. All moms are welcome, with childcare available for infants through preschool-age children.
We will begin by studying “In His Image” by Jen Wilkin. Through this book we will look at 10 qualities of who God is — holy, loving, just, good, merciful, gracious, faithful, patient, truthful and wise — and discuss what it looks like to live out these qualities in our own homes, workplaces, and communities.

Watch Church Services

In light of recent events and health concerns regarding the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), we want to communicate what we are doing at South to help care for one another. Providing effective support and care to those most vulnerable (the elderly and those with serious chronic health conditions) is a critical priority for South Church, and is at the heart of the approach we are taking. We also want to be good neighbors in our community and our State when it comes to helping slow the spread of this virus, and to be responsible citizens, respectful of the appropriate governmental authorities, and in particular the governor’s order, released just today, prohibiting gatherings of 250 people or more (through Sunday April 5).

In view of all these factors we are temporarily cancelling services beginning this Sunday March 15 through April 5, including onsite activities and programs during that time period. (The offices will remain open but please call ahead to make an appointment if at all possible.)

We can assure you that we have been very reluctant to adopt this approach because of the high value we place on our times of gathered worship, teaching and fellowship, but we are in an extraordinary situation at the present time. We will be live-streaming a (simplified) service at 9:30 on Sunday mornings with music and a message from God’s Word, which you can connect to via our website ( (Please note: the church will not be open.) We will also be exploring other ways to provide online teaching and ministry. While all on-site activities at the church will be canceled during this time, small groups are free to make their own decisions regarding meeting in their homes.

SPUR is devoted to prompting spiritual growth and leadership among men.

Spur is made up of meaningful times of prayer, bible study, book study, sharing, learning and growing in our walk with Jesus. Currently, we are studying the book, Knowing God by J. I. Packer. This book has been an important tool to help Christians around the world discover the wonder, the glory and the joy of knowing God.

New believer or seasoned believer, if you want to learn how to walk with Jesus, come join us and we will learn and grow together. New people, age 21+, are always welcome and can jump in anytime.
