The worship ministries of South Church serve to bring praise to Jesus Christ and to magnify His presence in the hearts of the congregation. God is a creative being and we are made in His image.
The area of worship ministries assists the church in claiming Christ’s lordship over its creative talents and in using those talents for His honor and purposes to ultimately bring glory to God and to enjoy and worship Him forever.
Our intent is to serve, prepare for, integrate, complement and further expand the ministry of God’s word.
Worship Services
Balanced Service
(Sunday 9:30 am – Worship Center)These services have a formal setting with pew-style seating and greater levels of light for the congregation. The balanced services are led by the South Choir, Vocal Teams, band and/or the orchestra using a blend of traditional hymnody, meaningful praise and worship songs, and selections by classical and sacred composers.
Morning Service ArchivesCreative Service
(Sunday 11:00 am – Chapel)Service elements in this service are less formal and are programmed to be free-flowing with lower levels of light on the congregation. The music is predominantly guitar-driven and contemporary. The creative service music is led by the worship team putting modern instrumentation to worship songs and traditional hymns.
Morning Service ArchivesEvening Service
(Sunday 6:00 pm – Chapel)This service is very simple and traditional, singing predominantly hymns and almost always accompanied by the piano only. The teaching often extrapolates on what was taught on that Sunday morning. Occasionally the message is presented by a special guest or missionary speaking on a special topic of interest.
Evening Service ArchivesAdult Choir
The adult choir regularly participates in leading worship during our Sunday morning services. There are other opportunities throughout the year for this group to participate in as well, including the annual Christmas Production and Easter Concert.
Membership is open to anyone high school age or over who is willing to commit to the requirements set forth in the South Church Choir brochure. Sharing God’s love through music and testimony, enjoying fellowship, fun, and praise with other members, is all part of belonging to the choir. Rehearsals are at 6:30pm on Wednesdays and 8:30am on Sundays.
Orchestra & Worship Band
The South Orchestra and Worship Band is a group comprised of various instrumentalists ranging from high school age through retirement age. The orchestra and worship band provide accompaniment for most of the congregational music, the choir and ensembles, as well as soloists during our Sunday morning worship services, special productions, and concerts. Interviews with the Pastor of Worship are held upon request. Rehearsals are held on Sunday mornings at 8:30am.
Vocal Teams
Vocal teams are small vocal ensembles used in worship services to assist with the Praise and Worship music, provide back-up vocals for solo works, as well as perform a variety of contemporary music. Excellent stage presence, the ability to memorize music quickly, and at least 20 years of age are some basic requirements for this group.
An interview with Pastor Corb is required.
Kids’ Choir
South offers a children’s choir program in order to teach children the importance of worship through music and the arts and what it means, and to provide opportunities for them to lead in worship through a variety of worship skills. Kingdom Rock Choir (formerly called Kids’ Choir) is open to students who are in third through sixth grade. This year we are also extending enrollment to seventh graders, to accommodate the lost opportunities due to pandemic closures. The rehearsal is during the 6PM Sunday evening worship service. This choir enjoys learning a variety of styles of songs that can be used in worship, they present a musical each spring, and they often participate in the annual Christmas production.
Visual Arts
Art is always communicating something, whether intentional or not. It is not merely a-moral, as we sometimes treat it. Since Christ is to be Lord of the whole man, all our abilities and activities should be submitted under His lordship. We should treat art the same way by placing it under God’s authority.
Since art does communicate our worldview, artists must be aware of what they are saying through their art. An artist in the secular world may create his works to express himself or showcase his talents. However, a Christ-follower has the opportunity to glorify God by not only emulating a fraction of the creativity of a Supremely creative God, but to go a step further and communicate God’s truths intentionally.
When looking at the works of a Christian artist, we should see God’s truths permeating throughout. The artist’s worldview should shine through, augmenting their testimony as a follower of Christ. That is an invaluable way to witness to our neighbors in the world with the aim to make disciples of all nations, as we are all called to do.
Why should South Church encourage visual arts?
- To disciple, train and shepherd our artists to emulate God’s creativity for the purpose of making much of Him.
- To encourage artists to purposefully convey a Christian worldview through the breadth of their work over the course of their lifetime, placing their gifts and talents under the lordship of Christ.
- To facilitate an environment for South Church artists to interact over common interest so they can spur one another on toward higher pursuits of their craft.
- To enjoy God and glorify Him forever.

Here at South Church, The Audio-Visual team is always working behind the scenes, helping to execute our services and events
– and we need more volunteers!
We are looking to recruit two people who attend the Balanced Service and two people who attend the Creative Service, who are willing to serve once a month, running slides for service. There is no experience necessary for this position, and it needs very little technical knowledge. If you are willing to learn, we would love to have you serve in this crucial role. Contact our AV Coordinator, Ethan Simpson, at esimpson@southlife.org to get started.
Did you know that every weekend here at South Church, we have anywhere from 16 to 20 volunteers serving in our audio-visual ministry? These folks work tirelessly to help our ministries function every week, running slides, running lights, mixing audio, operating cameras, directing our broadcast and more!
It takes a lot of volunteers to make all of this happen and that means we need your help! We are looking for some new volunteers to join our team. If you have experience with technology or serving in AV, then great! Even if you have no experience, don’t worry! We will train you! Even young people from our youth group are welcome to serve on the AV Team, although we have some extra expectations for them.
Even if you have a busy schedule, that’s not a problem! Serve as often as you are able.

The purpose of The Master’s Craftsmen ministry is to create visual context for the message that is being presented at various church events. Scenery is designed, built, and painted for church events like musical productions, a first- person narrative for Sunday Services, or even a display for a week of Vacation Bible School. As the gospel is presented, the platform is adorned with appropriate visual pieces to help convey the meaning of the message.
