At South Church we celebrate communion, also known as the Lord’s Supper, in accordance with Jesus’ command to “do this in remembrance of me.” Communion services are held on the first Sunday of each month and alternate monthly between morning and evening services.

Those who have consciously turned from their sin and put their personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, are at peace with fellow Christians in a church that embraces the Gospel, and seek strength and grace to live more faithfully to Christ, are welcome to receive communion at South Church.

Elementary: We invite all children to be a part of our children’s ministry. Age appropriate classes meet during all Sunday services as well as AWANA on Wednesday nights. Most children’s ministry classrooms are in the east wing (nursery, Lambs, and Busy Bees are on the first floor, with the Pre K–5th grade on the second floor).

Junior and Senior High: Student Ministries meets at 9:30am in the Student Ministry Center (near the back entrance), and then attends worship service.

College: Grace and Truth College Ministry meets at 9:30am in the South Life Center and then attends worship service.

The central theme of the New Testament is God’s love for you as an individual. This love was revealed through Christ’s coming into the world and living among men, His dying on the cross, and rising from the dead. Through Christ’s death God offers you forgiveness for your sins, and through His resurrection the promise of everlasting life. Christ died and rose again for the whole world, but for you to become a Christian is an individual matter. The only way to establish a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is to accept His offer of forgiveness and everlasting life. The following Scripture passages show God’s part and yours. Read each verse and believe it, for it is the Word of God speaking to you.

God’s Love is Revealed “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3.16 God loves you and all of mankind. He wants to bless your life and make it full and complete. He offers you not only an abundant life here and now, but a life which is eternal—His very own life.

Man is Sinful “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3.23 The saying, “Well, we’re just human, nobody is perfect,” is Biblically sound. When we acknowledge this truth, we can see our separation from God, for he is holy.

Sin Has a Penalty “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6.23 To continue in sin will result in spiritual death, which is separation from God forever. The alternative is to personally receive God’s free gift, which is pardon for sin and provision for everlasting life.

Christ Paid the Penalty “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5.8 You may think you must lead a “good” life and do charitable acts for God to love you. This is not so. God loves you even in your sin. He sent Christ to die in your place and to pay the penalty for your sin so that you can be reconciled to him.

Salvation is a Free Gift “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2.8-9 Grace means underserved favor. God graciously offers to you what you could never do for yourself. God’s gift to you is free. You do not, and cannot, work for a gift. All you need to do is receive it. Believe with all your heart that Jesus Christ died for you to provide deliverance from your sins and to give you eternal life.

We Must Receive Christ “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1.12 When you receive Christ—when you accept what he has done for you—you become a child of God. Picture, if you will, Jesus Christ standing at the door of your life. Invite him in. He is waiting to be received into your life.

You can invite Jesus Christ into your life right now by praying to God something like the following:
Dear Lord, I know that I am a sinner and that I need your forgiveness. I believe that Christ died in my place to pay the penalty for my sin, and that he rose from the dead. I now invite Jesus Christ to come into my life as my Savior. Thank you for making me your child. Help me learn to please you in every part of my life.

Receive Christ Now—God Promises From His Word “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10.13 If you just now received Christ by calling upon the name of the Lord in prayer, the following took place:
  • your sins were forgiven (Colossians 1.14)
  • you became a child of God (John 1.12)
  • you were made an heir to all of God’s blessings (Romans 8.16-17)
  • you now possess everlasting life (1 John 5.12-13)

You became a Christian the moment you received Christ. Don’t trust your feelings, for they will change. Take God at his Word and believe his promises. Review the above passages whenever doubts arise. You should be able to say with assurance that, “I have recieved Christ. On authority of God’s Word, I have eternal life.” May God grant you “all joy and peace in believing.” (Romans 15.13)

If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior please let us know and we will send you some helpful literature.

We encourage you to take a next step if you are a new follower of Christ. Attend a Christianity Explored course. Click here for more information.

We are looking for adults and teen to join us this academic year as we teach kids about Jesus.

Serve once a month on Sunday, during either hour or every week on Wednesday as an Awana small group leader. We always welcome nursery volunteers for both of those days as well. If you’re interested, but not sure what level of commitment you are able to do, reach out to Steph or Andrea, and they would love to discuss the many options you have for serving in the most important work: discipling children.

Teens are invited to volunteer to serve once a month on Sundays during the second hour.

Parents – We are praying for you! We know that parenting in these times is not easy, and we need God and each other. We thank God for the partnership we have with you in the Biblical education and spiritual formation of your child(ren).

Being involved in what they are learning at church is key. One way is to volunteer in their classroom for a first-hand look at what is being taught from the Bible. You’ll be encouraged as you hear teachers bring the Bible to life and make connections with children on their level of understanding.

Another way to be involved is to use technology. You’ll want to sign up for our weekly emails and set up a free Lifeway account to access The Gospel Project at Home. We will send the link to the curriculum in our weekly email so you can access all the lessons, videos, songs, prompts, and activities to review and supplement your child’s learning. You can do this as a family, or have your child watch on their own. Be encouraged in your continual and faithful discipleship of your children!

Every Summer South Church opens it’s doors to children who just finished grades K-5 for Vacation Bible School! The theme changes from year to year as we celebrate God’s love with group activities, crafts, music, dancing, games and more. Check out some of our past year’s themes below.

Previous Themes

South offers a children’s choir program in order to teach children the importance of worship through music and the arts and what it means, and to provide opportunities for them to lead in worship through a variety of worship skills. For more information on the children’s choir program contact the pastor of worship ministries.

Kingdom Rock Choir (formerly called Kids’ Choir) is open to students who are in third through sixth grade. This year we are also extending enrollment to seventh graders, to accommodate the lost opportunities due to pandemic closures. The rehearsal is during the 6PM Sunday evening worship service. This choir enjoys learning a variety of styles of songs that can be used in worship, they present a musical each spring, and they often participate in the annual Christmas production.

Class Times

While you are attending an Adult Bible Community or worshipping in either of our Balanced or Creative services, know that your kids are learning and worshipping on Son View Mountain. Children can experience God in their own kid-friendly location in a class for their age and grade.

In order to provide a quality learning environment, we have a special time schedule for them. Children can be in class all morning or they can just come one hour. The second hour curriculum reinforces what is taught first hour and builds on it with additional activities and applications.

Class times are as follows:

First hour: Drop off: 9:20-9:30, Class time: 9:30-10:40 and Pick-up: 10:40-10:50

Second hour: Drop off: 10:50-11:00, Class time: 11:00-12:15 and Pick-up 12:15-12:25

For ages 2 – 5th grade we use The Gospel Project curriculum which takes children through the whole Bible in 3 years. Each story points to Jesus so children can understand the Gospel and our need for a Savior.

Safe Environment

We will do everything we can to provide a safe environment for your child.

  • We have a check-in system which generates a sticker name tag for your child (and can include allergies/special needs)
  • You will receive a claim ticket to use when picking them up.
  • In case of an emergency, we have medical personnel on call during the services. If your child needs you, we will text you to come to the classroom.
  • All rooms are equipped with a first-aid kit and instructions on emergency procedures.
Sunday Morning Adventures – Early Childhood (2-year-olds – Kindergarten)

First hour: We have 2 classes – Busy Bees (2 and 3-year-olds) and Pre-K/K (for our 4 and 5-year-olds). They will enjoy a time of free play when they arrive. Then they will have a Bible time which includes singing, prayer, a short Bible video, and the lesson. At the end of the hour, they will do a paper project that will reinforce the weekly lesson (our 2- and 3-year-olds Bees class will have a small snack). This hour concludes at 10:40.

Second hour: Children are welcome to stay in our program all morning. We have two classes: Busy Bees (2 and 3-year-olds) and Pre-k and Kindergarten (4 and 5-year-olds). We have a free play from 10:50-11:10. Then they will have a Bible time which includes singing, prayer, a short Bible video, and the lesson. At the end of the hour, they will do a paper project that will reinforce the weekly lesson. Second hour concludes at 12:15.

Nursery:
The nursery is open all morning for our infants – 1 year old. We faithfully keep a 1 to 2/3 ratio of workers to children of these ages to provide for the safest environment.

Sunday Morning Elementary

First hour: 1st – 5th graders begin the first hour in their classrooms for time with their teachers to do pre-lesson activities. At 9:40, they attend a large group time to sing songs in worship that will prepare them for the Bible lesson. This time ends at 9:55. At that time, they head back to their classrooms to have the Bible lesson, activities and a prayer time. This hour concludes at 10:40

Second hour: Children are welcome to stay in our program all morning. We have a break time from 10:50-11:00 with a snack. They then meet in a large group from 11:05-11:20 to worship and sing songs that reinforce what they are learning in the Bible. After that, they return to their classroom to review past Bible lessons, have the Bible lesson for the day, and do activities and games which reinforce the Bible lesson. 2nd hour concludes at 12:15.

Sunday Nights

3rd-6th graders are invited to join the Kingdom Rock Choir which rehearses most Sunday evenings during the school year. They meet in room 212 from 6:00-7:15 p.m. They learn about worship, prepare for the annual Children’s Christmas Program which is presented in December and present a musical program each spring. To register and see a rehearsal schedule, go to www.southlife.org/kingdomrockchoir
